                            about the Crown Prosecution Service

 This
                            page explains how you can:

                            complain
                              to the Crown Prosecution Service;

how
to take out a 'judicial review' of a decision made
                              by the Crown Prosecution Service

Other organisations - other than the Crown Prosecution
Service - are also involved in investigation and prosecutions
arising out of health and safety issues. If you have
complaints concerning any one of the organisations
below, please click on the name of the relevant organisation
and this will provide you with information on how
                            to make a complaint.
 The
Centre for Corporate Accountability can assist you
in making a complaint (or assessing whether a complaint
is appropriate). It is best if you could first e-mail
us with some basic details of your concerns and we
will then get back to you. Click

Complaining to the Crown Prosecution Service
                            (CPS)
The CPS has a four step approach if you are concerned
about the way a case has been handled.

 Step 1

If you wish to complain about the way a case was handled
you should write to the CPS office that originally
dealt with it. Include as much information as possible,
such as the name of the defendant, which court dealt
with the case, and the date of the hearing and any
                            reference numbers you may have.

 Step 2

If you arent satisfied with the reply that you
receive from the local office you should contact the
Chief Crown Prosecutor for the area.

 Step 3

If you are still not satisfied you should contact:
 CPS Correspondence Unit
 50 Ludgate Hill
 London
 EC4M 7EX

 Tel: 020 7796 8500 - calls may be recorded
 Fax: 020 7796 8680
 e-mail: complaints@cps.gsi.gov.uk

 Step 4
Complaints that cannot be resolved satisfactorily
at a local level are referred through the Customer
Service Unit to the Director of Public Prosecutions
or Chief Executive who will consider personally how
the complaint should be handled and will reply or
arrange for a reply to be sent.

 Judicial Review
In February 2002, we shall be putting information
on the website on what circumstances allow you to
take a legal challenge against the CPS. Until then
                            contact us if you would
                            like further information.
