Bangladesh - PIL Petition relating to KTS

Fire at KTS Garment Factory, in Chittagong, which killed 52 people in February 2006

First Hearing Date  
Initial Order Rule Nisi, 16 March 2006 "returnable within three weeks", Government respondents had to show cause as to why they (a) "should not be directed to take necessary action as required by the law and the constitution to effectively investigate, prosecute and punish those responsible for the deaths and injuries" and (b) to take all necessary measures for such purpose and for prevention of any future such occurence" including seeting up a national committee to make proposals to prevents such incident; providing compensation; inspecting factories to ensure cmplieance with fire safety regulations.

Current Status Although the case should have come back to the court within three weeks of 16 March 2006, there has been no further hearings
