The
Health and Safety Executive and Local Authorities
The Health and Safety Executive and Local Authorities
are responsible for the following activities:
- undertaking preventative
inspections on employers to determine whether they
are complying with safety law
- undertaking investigations
into reported dangerous occurrences, gas incidents,
over-three day injuries, major injuries, diseases
and deaths
- as a result of their inspections
or investigations, the HSE can:
- provide oral or written
advice;
- impose improvement or
prohibitions notices
- provide a written warning,
caution or prosecute
Parliamentary
Select Committee's Inquiry into the Work of the Health
and Safety Executive (1999)
In 1999, the Environment, Transport, and Regional Affairs
Select Committee held an inquiry into the work of the
Health and Safety Executive. The CCA gave written evidence
and was one of only five non-Governmental organisations
to give oral evidence.
Issues relating to HSC's Enforcement
Policy Statement
The Health and Safety Commission publishes an "Enforcement
Policy Statement' which sets out how inspectors from
both the Health and Safety Executive and Local Authorities
should enforces health and safety law.
