Reporting of injuries to members of the public
Back to main page on 'Reporting'

Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations states that there are two kinds of injuries that should be reported to the authorities

major injuries to members of the public that take place in a hospital. Section 3(d) says that if

"any person not at work suffers a major injury as a result of an accident arising out of or in connection with work at a hospital"

it is reportable. The definition of what type of injury is a major injury is set out in the page on major injuries to workers. Click here

any injury where the person is taken to a hospital for treatment. Section 3(c) states that if:

"any person not at work suffers an injury as a result of an accident arising out of or in connection with work and that person is taken from the site of the accident to a hospital for treatment in respect of that injury"

it is reportable. This excludes most work-related road-traffic deaths, with a number of exceptions. To see the exceptions click here.
