This
section of the website looks at which of the incidents
- that are reported to the HSE as the Reporting of
Injuries, deaths and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations(RIDDOR)
- are investigated.
It
should be noted that simply because an incident is
not 'formally reportable' does not necessarily mean
that the HSE will not investigate it. If the HSE is
informed about a death or an injury which involves
some significant safety issues which is not being
dealt with by any other agency, it may well use its
dicretion to investigate. This could for example happen
in relation to a death or injury resulting from a
Road Traffic Incident or from an operation in a hospital
- most of which are not formally reportable.to the
HSE under RIDDOR
In
addition, whilst a suicide is not reportable, it could
be subject to an HSE investigation if there was evidence
that a reson for the suicide was stress or bullying
that took place at the workplace.
