CCA disappointed by Corporate Manslaughter Bill
Commenting on the bill published today CCA’s UK Director Maggie Robbins, said:
“The bill looks substantially like the previous draft bill in the essential elements of the offence, and therefore contains the same weaknesses. We welcome that a bill has finally been introduced, but feel the bill may be fatally flawed. Despite the Governments agreement in March to reconsider the ‘senior manager test,’ the language remains unchanged. CCA continues to believe that the senior manager test is so narrow as to undermine the central purpose of the bill. We are also concerned about the limited impact of the bill on deaths arising from the conduct of public bodies such as the police and prisons.”
CCA will endeavour to persuade Parliament to amend this bill to address these problems.
