Deaths of Cockle Pickers - CCA Comment

David Bergman, Director of the CCA said today:

"The deaths of 18 Cockle Pickers in Morecambe bay is one of Britain's worst work-related disasters in recent years.

If these people had been asked to undertake this work for a company, business or individual, a manslaughter investigation needs to be carried out into whether their deaths were the result of gross negligence on the part of their part.

The Police and Health and Safety Executive (or some other safety body with similiar enforcement powers) should be involved in the investigation"
